I was tooling around a competitor's website  and noted tail lights are mandatory when racing at night.

http://forums.prokart.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=628

Would a similar safety rule apply for our series racing at night? Is it an insurance issue?

Will head light be next? :!: :?:

Tracks that are licensed to run under lights, have to comply with chapter 18 (18.11 page 116), and by this design, there would be adequate lighting for all to see.
There is no mention anywhere in the rule book about lights on Karts.
(Note: That if it is in the supplementary rules then it becomes a rule for the event.)
Other AKA clubs (including North Shore Kart Club) have run race meetings under lights with no requirement for lights on karts...
Eastern Creek Hire Karts run under lights and I don't believe their karts have lights fitted (I've never seen them on, if they are fitted).

If Lights become mandatory for this event, will a mechanical defect flag be issued to a kart with a defective light? Could a kart be "Excluded from the Event" for not having a working light ( ran out of batteries or ran out of replacement lights in the event of the light fittings falling apart). ie no light no entry to track. What guide lines will the competitor and the scrutineers be issued. I don't want to turn up to the track and be told that my light is to big or to small, to dim or to bright, or mounted in the wrong position etc...
Last thing I want is to be disqualified in the last hour of the event because my light failed...

I suggest that visibility in the wet is far less than at a night meeting and tail lights would not do very much to help this problem either. (Have you ever seen the vision from an F1 drivers view point in the ran, usually just before he hits the car in front.) :o

Horsepower Racing is likely to be running at the creek depending on costs etc.

In regards to lights we have had to use them in the other series for the last couple of years and I have found that in the dry they make no difference and are a complete waste of time but they do help a bit in the wet.

A bit of advice for everyone who is new to having to put lights on a kart you can forget about most bicycle lights as they will vibrate to peices in the first hour. You will need to get a LED light. A cheap one we have found is a energizer light that has a strap to go on your head which can be modified to bolt to the rear of the seat. You can find these in the battery section at woolworths for around $30. We have had one on our kart for the last 2yrs and it has only just died with the switch braking off.

Holty does not run lights on his Karts at night at the creek. I am sure that if there was an insurance issue he would be all over it and light the things up like chrissy trees!

I cannot say that we need them. I have driven the creek a fair bit in the dark and I suggest that the only poorly lit places are the left at the dummy grid exit and the next left and the transition from the 1024 to the hire cart circuit.

That been said I am happy to wack a light on the back.

If we have to run lights for this event I have been to Big W lately and seen a rear red light for bicycles for sale for only $12. If it will be required I think these should be sufficient bu I guess we will need to know before we turn up to the creek.

I would be happy to go an pick some up for the teams if need be, but I will wait to see how it all pans out.

Still want to thank the bus driver, who is doing great work on Elvis (43).

Cheers
Marco

Based on some valid points made and other factors it's likely that lights will not be required at EC.

Great to hear your coming Spike!

Cheers

Hi All!

We have a couple of drivers who will need to renew their licenses before this event and one who needs a SEL, does anyone know if TEKA will be doing licensing at the Event????

Thanks!

Great news you're coming!

We're hoping to do a session for licensing on the day. This saves you or the licensing officers committing any other personal time to the process. We just have to confirm it with the members who are responsible for licensing!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Let me know if you need anything!

Cheers
